Project Overview

Tipsey is a mobile app designed to make tipping and small payments feel effortless, social, and human. The goal of the project was to create a frictionless experience that removes awkwardness from tipping while keeping the interface playful, modern, and intuitive.

My role focused on UI/UX design, from early user research and flows to high-fidelity visual design and interaction details.

The Problem

Tipping and micro-payments are often clunky, uncomfortable, or unclear—especially in digital environments. Existing solutions tend to feel transactional, cold, or overly complex for something meant to be quick and casual.

Users needed:

  • A fast, low-effort way to tip
  • Clear confirmation and transparency
  • A friendly, trustwort`hy interface
  • A sense of ease rather than pressure or confusion

The Solution

Tipsey was designed as a tap-first, minimal-decision experience. The interface prioritizes speed, clarity, and emotional comfort—letting users complete an action in seconds while still feeling confident about it.

Key Design Principles:

  • Simplicity over features
  • Clear visual hierarchy
  • Delight through micro-interactions
  • No unnecessary steps

User Research & Insights

I explored common pain points around tipping behavior, payment anxiety, and trust in financial apps. This helped shape flows that minimize hesitation and cognitive load.

User Flows & Wireframes

Core actions were mapped to require as few taps as possible. Early wireframes focused on one-handed usability and clear primary actions.

Usability Considerations

Large, readable touch targets, simple language and labels, clear success and confirmation states.

UI Design

The visual design of Tipsey balances approachability and credibility.
  • Color Palette: Cool, inviting tones paired with neutral backgrounds to reduce financial anxiety
  • Typography: Clean, modern typefaces for clarity and accessibility
  • Iconography: Simple, rounded icons that feel friendly and intuitive
The interface avoids visual clutter and instead leans on spacing, contrast, and hierarchy to communicate importance.

Accessibility & Inclusivity

The Outcome

The final design delivers a smooth, confident experience that makes tipping feel natural rather than transactional. Tipsey demonstrates how thoughtful UI/UX can transform a small interaction into something enjoyable and stress-free.

Interfaces with intention.

This portfolio showcases a selection of UI/UX projects that highlight a thoughtful, user-centered design process. Each project page explores how research, strategy, and final interfaces solve real problems, improve usability, and create meaningful digital experiences. The work reflects a balance of functionality, visual clarity, and attention to detail across web and product design.
